Call for Participation: Forum at the conference "On Critical Education and Unlearning in Museums“

The conference asks how gender-sensitive and racism-critical work can be done in museums, and will take place on November 7, 2022. Positions and demands from parts of society cause uncertainties, new expectations meet traditional attitudes.

The conference will discuss in an international context how we can question ourselves and our work self-critically and what this means for us and the museum as an institution. The focus will be on queer and racism-critical approaches to museum work, questions of empowerment and the pluralisation of narratives. It is about the very individual understanding of the role of the eduacators as well as that of the institution museum itself: Who speaks? What do we talk about? And how do we speak?

The organizers are particularly interested in approaches that critically review the institution, its work and its structures and staff. Also in practical experiences with raising awareness and self-reflection as well as concrete measures on the way to a diversity-oriented institution.

They would also be happy to receive further ideas for contributions or impulses for questions!

Application deadline: 30 June.
